Cutera XEO

Cutera’s flexible XEO platform is made to meet the needs of any medical practice or spa. The Cutera XEO features a number of attachments which use laser light and infrared light to resculpt skin across the entirety of the body, including delicate areas such as eyelids, lips, ears and neck. Its numerous configurations allow it to be used for hair reduction, skin tightening, blemish removal, wrinkle reduction, and more. Building on Cutera CoolGlide technology, the treatment with the XEO is almost perfectly painless.

Below are a few of the Cutera XEO modules currently available.

truPulse Nd:YAG Laser
The truPulse Nd:YAG attachment is a laser designed for the treatment of excess hair and vascular lesions. It also features the Laser Genesis feature, for skin rejuvenation and de-aging. It can be used on all areas of the body, including the face, and is effective with all skin types.

The Cutera LimeLight handpiece uses intense pulsed light (IPL) for a variety of treatments, including hair removal, skin de-aging, diminishing of wrinkles and other fine lines, and pigmented lesions. The XEO LimeLight has three preset programs: 520 nm filter, for the treatment of diffuse redness and spider veins (telangiectasia); 560 nm filter, for low and high contrast pigment, as well as diffuse redness and spider veins; 580 nm filter, for liver spots (solar lentigines).

The Cutera ProWave is an infrared wavelength system, operating at multiple wavelengths along the spectrum from 770 to 1100 nm, and with a peak power of 10 kW. The ProWave is clinically proven to reduce hair growth by more than 80%, six months after a series of three sessions. It is designed to work on skin types ranging from I to V, and has a push button system to quickly readjust the pulse width and wavelength as needed for any particular skin tone. Its large spot size, 10mm by 30mm, allows for the most expedient possible treatment, without compromising effectiveness.

The ProWave is so comfortable for patients that the application of gels or creams before treatment is completely unnecessary. A cold sapphire tip keeps skin cool, and the tip temperature can be adjusted as desired. The tip has a feedback system that allows it to adjust itself in real time, so that temperatures don’t exceed the desired level.

The Cutera Titan is a light-based handpiece that uses an infrared light to project heat deep into subdermal tissues. This process causes collagen contraction, tightening skin and giving a younger, firmer look. The XEO Titan uses a cooling tip to keep skin cool while working beneath the surface. Thanks to the low-impact nature of the procedure, the Titan is safe to use on skin all over the body, including delicate face on the face and neck. Patients feel only brief pulses of heat, making gels or anesthetics unnecessary in the vast majority of cases.

Pearl Laser (Er:YSGG)
The Cutera Pearl laser is a 2790nm wavelength Er:YSGG laser, developed specifically for skin resurfacing, and is useful in the treatment of age-related skin damage, including sun damage, pigment spots, wrinkles, and other texture issues. The XEO Pearl laser works by vaporizing the very outer layers of the skin (10-30 microns), while also projecting heat down into deeper tissues. This produces a threefold combined treatment: tissue ablation, coagulation of tissue, and collagen remodeling. This process promotes the growth of new skin cells, as well as collagen production. Recovery time is minimized, thanks to the thin layer of heat-coagulated skin produced by the laser, creating a natural dressing that protects the tissue beneath during the next few days. Because the laser resurfaces the entirety of the exposed skin, many treatments only require a single session.

It should be noted that for a few days after treatment, skin spots and other defects may return if the affected skin is exposed to sun. In addition to wrinkles and pigmentation, the Cutera Pearl reduces the visibility of scars, including those produced by acne. The Pearl laser is effective on skin types ranging from I to IV.

Pearl Fractional Laser
The Cutera Pearl Fractional Laser is a variation on the traditional Pearl laser. Many clients require very minimal recovery time due to the requirements of their schedules. This is achieved with the XEO Pearl Fractional by exposing only small, regularly spaced pinpricks of skin. Skin and tissue around each site is left untouched, allowing for a much more rapid healing process. However, the Pearl projects deep into the dermis and subdermis at each exposure site, which provides much more effective and noticeable results than other fractional skin resurfacing methods.

The minimal exposure of the fractional laser makes it ideal for treating especially thin and sensitive skin, such as that immediately around the eye and mouth, which often shows the most evident signs of aging. Aside from the fractional exposure, the treatment and post-treatment healing process are identical to that experienced with the main Pearl laser. Collagen production and tissue contraction are promoted, producing younger looking, tighter, blemish free skin.

Cutera Excel V

The Cutera Excel V uses a green dual-wavelength laser (532 nm/1064 nm) to treat a number of different vascular conditions and pigmentation issues. The Nd:YAG long-pulse laser—referred to by Cutera as truPulse—delivers a consistent amount of energy for the entire duration of the laser pulse, making it especially effective in eliminating unsightly veins. Additionally, the Excel uses a cooling tip that provides dermal cooling for the duration of each laser pulse—before, during and after—in order to minimize discomfort.

The Excel V is indicated for a number of treatments, including: rosacea, leg veins, acne scars, scar reduction, keloids, angiomas, telangiectasia, port wine stains, freckles, wrinkles, sebaceous hyperplasia (dilation of oil glands), poikiloderma, dermatosis papulose nigra (DPNs), warts, venous lakes, age spots and other pigmented lesions, facial veins, sun damage, and skin tags.

The Excel laser treats vascular issues by heating targeted veins until they coagulate and break up, which allows the body’s immune system to absorb the unwanted tissue. As a result, the natural pigmentation of the skin is restored, unblemished by the previously underlying veins. Treatments sessions typically last 15 to 30 minutes. Many treatments require only a single session, though this varies depending on the type and scope of the treatment.

Advantages of the Excel V include:

  • Dual-wavelengths for increased effectiveness
  • Easy setup with the Excel V’s auto-calibration system
  • Fast start-up time; only 30 seconds to warm up
  • Most procedures require only a single treatment
  • Adjustable spot size, from 2 to 12 mm
  • Convenient preset treatment modes, as well as customizable treatment options
  • Sapphire contact cooling tip cools skin for the duration of treatment
  • Effective on all skin types
  • No need for disposable or single-use consumables

Genesis V Handpiece
The Genesis V contains an Nd:YAG laser that delivers a 1064nm wavelength pulse that specifically targets very fine vasculature. This makes it especially useful in the treatment of rosacea and diffuse redness, as well as wrinkle and scar reduction.

Cutera GenesisPlus

Cutera’s GenesisPlus is an ablation laser specially designed for use in podiactric treatments. The GenesisPlus laser is an effective means for improving the appearance of toenails infected with toenail fungus (onychomycosis). Patients treated with the Genesis laser leave with clearer, healthier looking nail. The Genesis can reduce discoloration and deformity, and also reduce pain resulting from fungal infection.

The flexible GenesisPlus system is also appropriate for a number of other foot treatments. It can be used to remove a number of types of warts, including periungual warts, subungual warts, and plantar warts. It is effective in treating nerve issues, such neuromas of the foot, including Morton’s neuroma. For the treatment of damaged, deformed, or ingrown nails, the GenesisPlus laser can be used for partial (matrixectomy) or radical removal of the toenail.

The Cutera GenesisPlus is also approved for reducing the appearance of scars and keloids, treating rosacea, poikiloderma, and other vascular lesions, and minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.

The lightweight GenesisPlus handpiece has an integrated temperature sensor, and displays the current temperature via a color scale on the barrel of the handpiece. This allows the treatment specialist to adjust settings in order to provide patients with the most comfortable possible treatment.
